National Data Protection Authority (ANPD) is transformed into a special autarchy

The National Data Protection Authority (ANPD) was transformed into a special autarchy with the enactment of Provisional Measure No. 1,124 of 06/13/2022. Thus, the ANPD now enjoys administrative and budgetary autonomy, in addition to the technical and decision-making autonomy attributed to it by the LGPD.

This formalization represents an important milestone in the field of personal data protection in Brazil, as it strengthens the entity responsible for the regulation, inspection and sanction of the matter in the national territory, demonstrating that the importance of personal data (and its legal protection) is in full rise in Brazil.
