HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES APPROVES THE POSTPONEMENT OF LGPD PENALTIES FOR AUGUST 2021
On May 14, it was approved by the House of Representatives the Bill of Law n. 1,179, which approved, among other matters, the postponement of the penalties provided for in the General Data Protection Law (LGPD) to August 2021.
The bill of law also intended to postpone the enforceability of LGPD to January 1, 2021. However, it was approved only the postponement of LGPD penalties to August 2021.
Therefore, MP 959/20, which currently postpones the enforceability of the LGPD to May 2021, is still valid. However, it still necessary to monitor its possible conversion into law and also monitor the final approval of the bill of law n. 1179.
In sum, the actual dates for the enforceability of the LGPD and of its penalties are the following (but they still may change):
– LGPD: May 2021
– Pennalties of the LGPD: August 2021
